“The Children: Our Voice and Cries For Our Rights”

Volume 1, Issue 4-5 / March-April 2009

Mommy, Daddy, chairman, chairlady, security, teacher…

Why do you abuse me?

Why do you exploit me?

Where is your assistance?

Where is your support?

Why don’t you prepare me for my future?

How will be our tomorrow’s country?

Who will improve our future technology?

There is no tomorrow’s president apart from me.

There is no tomorrow’s doctor apart from me.

There is no tomorrow’s minister apart from me.

There is no tomorrow’s teacher apart from me.

There is no tomorrow’s parent apart from me.

Daddy, you are a president because your parents looked after you.

Mommy, you are a doctor because your parents gave you a chance to go to school.

You are a manager, a protection officer, and a camp manager

because you got a support, assistance, and protection when you were a child refugee.

You are Hotel One, India One, Lima, Whisky One…

Because your country observed and respected your rights when you were a child.

Give me also that chance,

Please give me support, assistance,

But not abuse or exploitation.

As children in Kakuma, our wish is to contribute to the development of this world.

How can we succeed?

If only our rights are observed and respected…

If only we are protected and participate…

Thanks a lot for Child Development Unit in Kakuma

Through it our voices and our cries will be heard.
