CS Launches Development Response to Displacement Impact Projects in Kakuma

Devolution and ASALs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa on Tuesday, 15th June visited Kakuma Sub-county hospital in Turkana West sub-County to launch a number of projects involving the Government of Kenya.

In collaboration with the national government, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has allocated 10 billion shillings to cater for local Kenyans who have hosted refugees for close to three decades in Kenya.

The Devolution CS delivered the message of funds on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta while addressing residents of Lokipoto and Kakuma.

Wamalwa was accompanied by CS John Munyes and Turkana Deputy Governor Peter Emuria Lotethiro, who also unveiled several other projects to cater for health, water, education, and livelihood.

“The county of Turkana is one of the three counties of Kenya hosting refugees from neighboring countries. A message from our president (Uhuru Kenyatta) is that through the assistance of World Bank, Kenya government has deposited 10 billion shillings into the bank of Turkana west, and in particular for Turkana west sub-county which would receive 3 billion shillings. The money will improve your life, making sure you have access to water and wash away health issues,” explained CS Wamalwa.

CS Wamalwa presented the cheques worth Ksh 78 Million to persons with disabilities (PWDs), youth, and women’s groups in Kakuma, which has hosted refugees for decades and are now benefitting under the Kenya Development Response to Displacement Impact Project (KDRDIP).

“We need clean drinking water, and this money can be used to expand groups’ smaller businesses.” Said Anthony Eleman in an interview with KANERE

Several local groups turned up during the launch of projects by the Cabinet Secretary.

“We have women’s groups, we have groups of our boys here in Kakuma, we also have groups of disabled people. Today I am happy to announce that, we have groups of about 156, youth groups, women’s groups here in Kakuma, and I am telling you that the money you are going to receive will be 78 million Kenya shillings,” said CS Wamalwa while addressing the youth and women groups in Kakuma.
